40″ Tigercat Profile Model Kit

Description

The Tigercat was one of the first planes we designed and has a modified flat airfoil – we never changed it over to the “Standard” undercambered airfoil that our other models use because this one flies so well – so we left it alone!  The profile fuselage on our model seems really appropriate since the full-size plane was so skinny!

The full-size F7F Tigercat was the absolute peak of piston-engine warbird development and was awesome with two 2200hp engines.  There are several immaculate examples still flying today.  The giant engines on each side evokes the “pod racers” from Star Wars. There are some absolutely incredible videos of this plane flying that will make the hair stand up on your arm. Put the sound up!  Here’s one.  Here’s another!

Back to reality – this is just a foam kit.  It includes the foam parts needed to build this model, along with a fully detailed construction manual and some accessories such as carbon fiber and the pull-pull control system.  The model is not assembled or painted, so the customer needs to supply glue, paint, and other hobby tools, servos, motors, battery and electronics in order to put it together.   Working flaps are an option that you can add (see the picture below).

This short video shows the prototype flying at a small indoor venue. I had to use a low power setting indoors but you can see how well it flies (just like all RM planes)!

This model is designed for brushless motors in the 1300kv/1oz size and 3-bladed 9×7 propellers (not included but available separately).  On the prototype we used 16″ plastic sour cream/cottage cheese containers to make a crude cowling for the motors.  However we now have a very nice scale-sized formed plastic cowl available (CLICK HERE) and you can see the difference in these photos, which show both versions.
