Dynam PBY replacement 3D-printed parts

Description

The Dynam 1470mm PBY Catalina is a popular model which has been produced in a few versions.    I found a nice V1 (gray) example but it was missing one cowl – so we designed a 3D-printed replacement plastic cowl and improved it with cowl flaps!  The model was also missing the original prop nuts which are necessary – so we made those as well.   (the propellers are from Dynam)

The Dynam model had stick-on decals for the wheels on the side of the fuselage.  We’ve made 3D-printed “real” wheels and hubs that can be installed on the side of the fuselage. These are “cut down” (flat on the bottom) so that they won’t stick out, but to install them you need to carve away a little foam to provide a flat mounting surface. These look a LOT better than the decals.

The original Dynam plastic cowl has a fake motor front molded in, which is rather unremarkable.  We found a replacement 3D-printed 9-cylinder fake motor design which isn’t perfectly scale but is an improvement over the original- and it provides better airflow.  The 3D-printed fake motor was designed by Thingiverse user Benm96, and is licensed under “Creative Commons – Attribution – Non-Commercial” which means that Rabid Models cannot sell it. This part is included with the cowl at no charge and the customer will need to paint it and glue it into place.

The parts are available separately so you can get what you need.  They are made from PETG, and they need to be painted. You can paint them with any plastic-compatible paint such as Tamiya spray paint or Acrylic craft paint.   For the V1 gray PBY, Tamiya AS7 “Neutral Gray” spray paint is a close match.

The Dynam 8×6 propellers are not included!  We’ve made a hub which is designed to lock onto the metal lock-nut which is used to attach the propeller, as you can see in these pictures.

Specifications: 3D-printed unpainted parts made from White PETG.    The cowl is 76mm in diameter and 56mm tall.  (3.0 x 2.2 in.) The cowl is attached to the motor mount and the fake motor is attached to the cowl using a flexible cement such as Foam-Tac. The prop nut does not require glue. The tire is 55mm in diameter and the wheel hub is included with it.

The propeller and hardware shown in the pictures are NOT included.  This product is for use ONLY with electric motors and propellers.
