3D-printed wheel parts for the Fun Scale Models P-38

Description

In addition to the fantastic scale spinners, we’re proud to offer some very special accessories for the Fun Scale Models P-38!   Lightweight 3D-printed scale wheels with black “diamond tread” rubber tires and mag wheel hubs!  Please see the “before and after” pictures below.

The airplane is not included!  Derek’s P-38 is a masterpiece and these wheels and tires really help dress her up. 

The following pictures show original Derek’s prototype model with regular foam tires and then WITH the new 3D-printed mag wheels and diamond-tread tires.

  

In addition to the special P38 wheels listed here, Rabid Models also offers custom-designed 3D-printed standard and CR 3-blade spinners for the Fun Scale Models P-38 (click here) as well as the brushless motors and 3-blade propellers.

SPECIFICATIONS:

SCALE P38 DIAMOND-TREAD TIRES: black flexible TPU with tread detail. Main tire is 2″ diameter, 1/2″ wide, 5gms.  The nose tire is 1.5″ in diameter and about 0.3″ wide, 3.2gms.  Two completed main wheels & hubs weigh 20gm and the nose wheel & hub is 4gm (about 1 ounce all total).

DETAILED MAG WHEEL HUBS: white PETG.  Main wheel mag hub is 1.25″ in diameter and the nose wheel hub is 0.92″.    Two hub halves make one wheel hub – glue onto the tire and carefully drill holes for your axle.  The hubs are not painted.

NOTE #1: the P38 requires two main tires & wheel hubs and one nose tire and wheel hubs.  You can get the complete set for $12 or order them separately if needed.

Note #2: for you scale enthusiasts, the main wheel hub on the full-size P38 has a brake disc inside, which means that you can’t see all the way through it. So the inside-facing half of the 3D-printed model hub has a solid backing, and the outside half is “see-through”.  You’ll receive the set shown below – If you have a different preference just send a note with your order.

Note #3 – these wheels and tires can also be used with the Rabid Models 40″ P38, which is a profile model that doesn’t come with landing gear.

Note#4 – Some P-38s had smooth “hubcaps” on the main gear.  A solid hub is available as an option, if you don’t want the mag hubs. This would be a special order, contact us for details.

3D-printed parts are unpainted but require very little preparation – they can be painted with any plastic-compatible paint.  Painting is recommended because all plastics will deteriorate over time if exposed to sunlight.  The two wheel hub halves are to be glued onto the tire with CA or Foam-Tac cement.  The two hubs have starter holes for the axle – carefully drill out the holes to match the axle wire size that you are using.
