Description
In addition to the scale spinners and wheels that we offer, we also have STRUT COVERS to transform the plain music-wire landing gear for Derek Micko’s Fun Scale Models P-38 and P-40! Please see the pictures and drawings below. The decorative strut covers are made in two halves and simply glue over the wire landing gear. The struts can be used with wires from 0.047 up to 0.062 (1/16″). These planes had straight main struts with no door covers attached, and the P38 had an “offset” nose gear strut.
The P-40 uses 2 main struts. The P38 has 2 main struts and a nose strut.
Choose from the 3 available selections:
- – One “offset” Nose gear strut (for the P38)
- – Set of 2 straight Main-gear struts, left and right (for the P38 or the P40)
- – All 3 parts for the P38: 1 Nose gear and 2 Main-gear struts (PICTURED) -this also will fit the RABID MODELS P38.
This drawing shows the P38-P40 main gear and strut:
SPECIFICATIONS: white PETG plastic, length is 2.75″ from axle to the top, weight for one strut is about 1.5gms
The struts are designed in two halves to glue around small-size music wire (the wire is not included).
In addition to the strut covers, Rabid Models also offers a custom-designed 3D-printed 3-blade SPINNERS, wheel hubs, and rubber tires for the P40 and P38 and many other Fun-Scale Model airplanes. Please explore our catalog of accessories.
3D-printed parts are unpainted – they should be painted, and you may use any plastic-compatible paint. Painting is recommended because all plastics will deteriorate over time if exposed to sunlight. Fasten the two halves of the strut covers onto the landing gear wire with CA or Foam-Tac cement. The modeler can fill the seam line with modeling filler before sanding and painting. The 1/16″ landing gear wire is not included.
