1/6 scale SPANDAU lMG-08 MACHINE GUN model kit - for R/C WWI Biplanes

This kit creates a model replica of a "Spandau Machine Gun" in approximately 1/6 scale.  This gun was used on several WWI German fighter planes. 

Its possible to produce this in larger sizes, contact us for details.  Making this model in a smaller size is not practical due to the small size of some of the parts.

The Spandau machine gun was developed long before WWI from the original "Maxim" gun. The MG-08 was introduced in 1908 and used 7.92mm ammunition.  The lMG-08/15 was the modified and lighter air-cooled version for aircraft introduced in 1915 that this model represents.  Over 20 thousand Spandau machine guns were produced for German fighter planes during WWI.  Afterwards a derivative remained in use with the Chinese army through the Chinese Civil war and the Vietnam war in the 1960's.  (from Wikipedia)

This 3-D printed piece was created by Thingiverse user "jfpion" on Thingiverse, he heavily modified a previous uncredited design to make it printable.  You can see his design here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1499758. Rabid Models made several additional modifications to create the separate parts and scale them to produce the kit.  The design is licensed under Creative Commons - Attribution.   

The replica Spandau machine gun is supplied as a kit - due to the complexity and several small parts, its more difficult for us to produce and assembling it takes a little more time and effort compared to our other gun kits.  The 3D-printed parts must cleaned up and adjusted, then they are glued together into sub-assemblies which are finally glued together to produce the finished model.  The prototype pictured here was painted (2 colors) without any modification - this is how the parts look without any filling, smoothing, or added detail.  Its possible for a talented builder to add more detail as desired.  This model does not come with a mount.

Specifications:

The Spandau Machine Gun Kit has 12 pieces made from 3D-Printed White PETG and a 3.5mm carbon-fiber gun barrel. There are 2 main assemblies which must be glued together first from separate pieces, then some other smaller parts are added to make up the entire model.  Instructions for assembly are included.

Completed model length: approx. 8.25 inches

Weight: 20.6 grams (about 0.73 ounce) - glued & painted.

This kit is appropriate for experienced modelers. The plastic 3D-printed parts are supplied unfinished and unpainted. Before assembly they need to be cleaned, trimmed, and sanded smooth - this requires some time, attention to detail, and care.  We recommend painting with any plastic-compatible paint. Some of the parts need to be painted before assembly.  Painting is important because plastics will deteriorate over time if exposed to direct sunlight.
