These larger sanders with simple V and U shapes are designed to help shape the edge on balsa (or foam) elevators and rudders for larger models.  They can be used on smaller-size balsa as well.   These have 120-grit sandpaper attached to the entire length.  The 60 and 90-degree tools are good for elevators and rudders on 3D-type models. Please see the types listed!

Our smaller original "mini" sanding tools were specifically designed for very small models with thin balsa parts, they are only 5 inches long with a 2-inch sanding surface and finer-grit sandpaper. 

Note: the color of the sandpaper may vary depending on the available stock. You can remove the paper if needed by applying foam-safe CA activator to dissolve the glue. New sandpaper can be attached using a spray contact cement such as 3M brand "77".

The sides of the tool are flat with sandpaper attached, which provides a hand-grip and provides two additional sanding surfaces!

Material: 3D-printed PETG Plastic with 120-grit sandpaper attached

AVAILABLE SIZES:

Parts# L1-L4 are 6 inches long and 12-14mm (1/2" - 3/4") wide.  The second picture shows the 6" tools along with a 1/4" dowel rod for comparison.

  • L1 U-shape is for rounding the edge of 3/8"-thick balsa. (can also be used on 5/16) 
  • L2 makes a 60-degree tapered edge on 7/16"-thick balsa and smaller
  • L3 U-shape is for rounding the edge of 1/4"-thick balsa. (can also be used on 3/16)
  • L4 makes a 90-degree edge on 5/16"-thick balsa (1/4" as well)
  • L5 (6.5 inches long) U-shape is for rounding the edge of 7/16"-thick balsa

Parts# L6-L7 are 8 inches long and 18mm (3/4") wide for thicker balsa

  • L6 makes a 60-degree tapered edge on 5/8"-thick balsa (can be used on 1/2" as well)
  • L7 - U shape for rounding the edge of 5/8"-thick balsa (will work on 1/2" as well)
    We also make a new tool #L8 for rounding over the outside edges of fuselages.
