The popular Dynam 1470mm PBY Catalina has been produced in a few versions.
I purchased a used V1 (gray) but it was missing one cowl - along with the propellers, hubs, and landing gear decals! So I've designed some 3D-printed parts to help, since replacement parts are hard to find. (I ordered the props from the internet. Sorry, I don't have the props for sale.)
First I made a replacement plastic cowl and improved it with cowl flaps! They are the correct size and fit the model perfectly.
The original Dynam plastic cowl has a rather lame fake motor front included. We found a replacement 3D-printed 9-cylinder fake motor design which isn't perfectly scale but is a BIG improvement over the original- and it provides better airflow than the original. That was designed by Thingiverse user Benm96, and is licensed under "Creative Commons - Attribution - Non-Commercial" which means that Rabid Models cannot sell it. This part is included with the cowl at no charge and the customer will need to paint it and glue it into place.
The Dynam PBY had stick-on decals for the wheels on the fuselage sides - and they had peeled off my plane. So I've made decorative 3D-printed wheels & hubs that can be installed on the side of the fuselage. These are "cut down" (flat on the bottom) so that they won't stick out, but to install them you need to carve away a little foam to provide a flat mounting surface. These look a LOT better than the flat decals!
The Dynam 8x6 propellers (not included) don't come with the hub - so I made a 3D-printed prop hub which is designed to lock onto the 5.5mm metal lock-nut used to attach the propeller, as you can see in the pictures. You must have the metal lock nut!
The parts are available separately so you can get what you need. They are made from PETG, and they need to be painted. You can paint them with any plastic-compatible paint such as Tamiya spray paint or Acrylic craft paint. For the V1 gray PBY, Tamiya AS7 "Neutral Gray" spray paint is a fairly close match. I used "gunmetal" and black for the fake motor and silver for the prop nut.
Specifications: 3D-printed unpainted parts made from White PETG. The cowl is 76mm in diameter and 56mm tall. (3.0 x 2.2 in.) The cowl is attached to the motor mount and the fake motor is attached to the cowl using a flexible cement such as Foam-Tac. The prop nut does not require glue. The decorative tire is 55mm in diameter and the wheel hub is included with it.
The propeller and hardware shown in the pictures are NOT included. This product is for use ONLY with electric motors and propellers.
NOTE: the cowls are gray and are a very close color match - if you have the silver version, its easy to spray-paint the cowls silver.
