Rabid Micro-Tailwheel Retainers (for very small wheels)
Rabid Micro-Tailwheel Retainers (for very small wheels)
Very small RC aircraft models have small wheels - and even smaller tail wheels. Clunky brass wheel collars don't look right and are heavy. (They're fine for larger wheels).
Rabid Models offers small 3D-printed tailwheels (click here) and 3D-printed wheel retainer "hubcaps" (click here) but THIS NEW IDEA is something different that's even smaller - which is great for very small wheels.
This is a 3mm PPN plastic tube available in two sizes to fit 1/16" (.0625) wire or 3/64" wire (0.047) wire.
These wires are 2 sizes often used in small models. The wire fits fairly tightly (a friction fit). The idea is that you can cut the tube into small pieces using a razor blade or hobby knife. The small piece of tubing fits on the wire to function as a wheel retainer (or spacer) as you see in the main picture.
This sale includes two pieces of tubing as you see above, about 5 inches total. Cut the tube to the length you need! 5 inches is enough to make 20-30 pieces depending on the size. The wheels, razor blade, and wire are NOT included! We suggest using a dot of flexible glue (such as Foam-Tac) on the end, to secure the tube on the wire. Do NOT use CA, that will glue the wheel to the axle.
But wait! That's not all!
Rabid tubing can also be used to firmly anchor a removeable antenna or other accessories on your model. Glue the tubing in your model and then "plug" the wire into it. The wire can be pushed in and pulled out! This way you can install removable details on your model to prevent them from being damaged in transport. The next several pictures illustrate - first two show a removable "loop antenna" in a foam fuselage.
Since the tubing is such a small item we recommend adding it to other items in your cart. Its probably not worth the postage to order this all by itself!
