Aeronca Chief Spinner

Description

This Custom-designed 3D-printed spinner has the style for classic civilian airplanes from the 1940’s and is specifically meant for Pat Tritle’s 56″ wingspan Aeronca Chief kit (offered by Manzano Laser Works).  It will also work with Pat’s Aeronca Champ and the “Funk Model B” (a similar airplane).  Its the right shape for the Ercoupe as well.

We used the original spinner drawing from the Aeronca factory to design this spinner with the correct scale profile!  Its 34.5mm (1-11/16″) in diameter and 25.5mm (1.0″) tall.

This spinner is designed for a 2-bladed APC 11×5.5E or 9x6E or 9×7.5E thin propeller (standard rotation) You will need a prop adapter with a 5mm prop shaft.  However, since this spinner is so short you’ll need to replace the “acorn” with a metric nut.

To install the spinner, first secure the propeller and spinner backplate onto the motor shaft using a prop adapter and nut, then the spinner cone simply snaps on – no additional hardware is needed!

Here’s a picture of the full-size Aeronca Chief’s spinner:

Specifications:

White PETG.    34.5 mm diameter and 25.5 mm tall

Weight: about 6 grams (base and cone)

The propeller and prop adapter are NOT included.  This product is for use ONLY with electric motors and propellers. The spinner backplate has a 5mm hole for the prop shaft.

The plastic spinner parts are unfinished (is in this picture) but can be sanded smooth and can be painted with any plastic-compatible paint.  Click here to see a video from Fun Scale Models that shows how to finish and install 3D-printed spinners.  Painting is recommended because all plastics will deteriorate over time if exposed to sunlight.  Glue is not needed, the cone simply snaps onto the baseplate!
