Our model of the famous B-17 offers excellent performance in a relatively small and simple package. The model is specifically designed to use four of our 10gm brushless motors with scale-size 5″ 3-bladed props, but could also be used with the brushed GWS IPS motor. We offer a motor package for this plane HERE (you’ll need to order two packs). With the recommended brushless motors and 1000mah 2-cell LiPo battery pack, the model flies realistically with plenty of power in reserve. It is stable and very responsive to the controls. We recommend it for indoor R/C flying, or outdoors in calm conditions.
This is a hand-cut kit. The kit includes the foam parts necessary to construct the model, a fully detailed construction manual and some accessories such as paper decals, carbon fiber spar, and the pull-pull control system. The model is not assembled or painted, so the customer needs to supply glue, paint, and other hobby tools, servos, motors, battery and electronics in order to assemble and complete it. The plastic cowls you see in the picture are “pudding cups” – which are not included, but go eat some pudding!
A working rudder is not necessary for this model, but can be easily added. This model was designed to be belly-landed in grass. The landing gear that you see on the prototype is not included with this kit but may be crafted by experienced models by using some small music-wire and lightweight wheels.
This picture is a screen shot from a nice 2-minute video showing the model lazily flying indoors. Click here to watch the video! Some people have complained that all of our videos show the planes only flying left turns, so I made a point of making figure-eight patterns this time! At the end of the video you’ll see I have independent inboard and outboard engine controls and differential thrust – that was just a fun experiment I was messing around with on this plane It does just fine with a normal setup.
