In addition to the scale spinner and wheels that we offer for Derek Micko's Fun Scale Models Macchi 202 Folgore, we also have 3D-printed STRUT COVERS to transform the plain music-wire landing gear! Please see all the pictures!

Derek's model features the strut covers, the custom wheels and tires, and cardstock landing-gear door covers.

THIS LISTING IS FOR THE DECORATIVE STRUT COVERS. The strut covers are made in two halves and simply glue over the wire landing gear to really dress up the model. The struts can accommodate wire sizes 0.047 to 1/16 (0.062). Note: 1/16" is the recommended size.

These two pictures show the assembled (unpainted) main gear strut and tire along with the wire bending guide:

The Macchi Folgore's main gear legs had a dual yoke for the wheel with backwards-facing scissors, with gear doors attached to the outside. The model is faithful to these design elements:

This drawing includes the template for bending the wire (see top left).  You may use the following link to download and print this drawing (Print "actual size") 3D PRINTED STRUT AND WHEEL DETAIL FOR THE FUN SCALE MACCHI 202 PARK FLYER V3

The strut cover set includes both the left and right main struts (6 pieces). They are designed to use the matching 3D-printed Macchi 202 tires and hubs which are available separately (click here). (NOTE: these same tires and hubs are also used on the Fun Scale Models P40/P63 main gear. You can pick from smooth-tread tires or groove-tread tires.) The modeler will need to make the cardstock gear-door covers (illustrated above) which are glued to the outside of the struts. The cardstock template for the Macchi gear-door covers can be downloaded HERE.

The following pictures display Derek's completed (painted) 3D-printed MAIN struts along with the 3D-printed tires, hubs, and cardstock gear-door covers.

SPECIFICATIONS: white PETG plastic, each strut cover weighs about 1.5gms

The Macchi strut is 3.3" long (83.8 mm) measured from the axle centerline.

Note: the struts are designed in two halves which are simply glued around the landing-gear wire (the wire is not included, it must be bent to the correct shape).

Gear Doors are not included! THIS SALE ONLY INCLUDES THE STRUT COVERS. In addition to the strut covers, Rabid Models also offers a custom-designed 3D-printed 3-blade SPINNER, wheel hubs, and rubber tires for the Macchi Folgore. Please explore our catalog of accessories! You can combine all these items on your order by adding to the shopping cart.

3D-printed parts are unpainted - they should be painted, and you may use any plastic-compatible paint. Painting is recommended because all plastics will deteriorate over time if exposed to sunlight. Fasten the two halves of the strut covers onto the landing gear wire with CA or Foam-Tac cement. The modeler can fill the seam line with modeling filler before sanding and painting. The 1/16" landing gear wire is not included.
